Our friends at Exapta Solutions have come up with the ultimate seed firming wheel for Deere 50, 60 & 90 series drills. Modeled off the previously best design, the CNH SDX firming wheel, but with replaceable long life bearing, better mud repelling compound and a lot less expense!
Thorough seed firming is critical to raising even stands of crop in marginal moisture conditions. Standard OEM seed firming wheels don’t get to the bottom of the seed slot in No-Till soils; their wider girth tends to ride up on the side wall of the furrow, not applying enough pressure on the seed to push it into the bottom of the trench.
The new DuraLok wheels have a thinner tapered design to get right to the bottom of the trench; they are also flexible to shed mud in sticky soils, and keep track in the trench allowing for sideways opener movement. DuraLok wheels come fitted with heavy duty NTN triple lipped bearings for long life.
 
The goal is seed “firming” in the bottom of the trench, not soil “packing” over the top of the seed.
